IMD issued heavy rain: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for coastal Karnataka (Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Dakshina Kannada districts) until July 27, indicating extremely heavy rainfall (over 204.5 mm). IMD issued heavy rain alert till July 27 in Karnataka.
Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is also likely along and off the Karnataka coast until July 26, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Districts like Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Shivamogga, and Kodagu are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Belagavi and Dharwad are likely to experience heavy rainfall, with other districts like Bidar, Bagalkot, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir possibly receiving light to moderate rain with gusty winds.
Bengaluru and surrounding areas are forecast to have generally cloudy skies with light to moderate showers and brisk winds (40-50 kmph). While not under a red alert for extreme rainfall, consistent rain is expected through the week. Some reports indicate a drop in rain probability for Bengaluru by July 30.
Impact and Advisories:
There is a possibility of flash floods due to intense rainfall, and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Visibility may be poor, leading to traffic congestion, and temporary disruptions due to waterlogging, uprooting of trees, or broken branches.
Possibility of damages to vulnerable structures, especially kutcha houses and huts. Landslides, mudslides, and land slips are very likely over coastal and ghat areas. Heavy rainfall may damage standing crops and vegetables.

Safety Measures:
Follow traffic advisories.
Avoid staying in vulnerable structures.
Do not go to waterlogged areas or riverfronts.
People in vulnerable areas are advised to move to safer places.
Take shelter during thunderstorms/lightning.
Avoid working in fields during thunderstorms/lightning.
Farmers are advised to suspend outdoor agricultural activities during extreme weather.
Authorities are continuously monitoring the situation and issuing updates.
Residents, especially those in flood and landslide-prone areas, are urged to stay alert and follow local advisories from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).
