Monsoon Rains Bring Cleaner Air as Bengaluru Records Excellent AQI Levels
Continuous monsoon showers have significantly improved air quality across Bengaluru and several Karnataka cities with lower pollution levels creating healthier conditions for residents and reducing concerns over airborne pollutants

Monsoon rainfall has brought a noticeable improvement in air quality across Karnataka, with Bengaluru recording some of its cleanest air levels in recent days. Continuous showers have helped wash away airborne pollutants, resulting in healthier atmospheric conditions across the state. The latest Air Quality Index readings indicate that pollution levels remain well within the safe range in most major cities.
Bengaluru has reported an average AQI between 33 and 48, placing the city firmly in the good air quality category according to Indian air quality standards. Environmental experts say persistent rainfall, cooler temperatures and steady winds have played a major role in reducing harmful particulate matter suspended in the atmosphere.
Several localities in Bengaluru have recorded encouraging AQI figures. Silk Board and BTM Layout registered an AQI of 46, while Basavanagudi also recorded 46, reflecting good air quality. Hebbal and Jayanagar reported an AQI of 42, whereas Banashankari registered 55, which falls under the moderate category but still remains within acceptable limits for the general public.
The improvement has been largely driven by a sharp reduction in PM2.5 and PM10 particles. These microscopic pollutants are among the biggest contributors to respiratory illnesses, especially in urban areas. Regular rainfall has helped settle these particles, creating cleaner air and making outdoor conditions more comfortable.
People with asthma and other breathing related conditions are expected to benefit the most from the improved environment. Doctors often advise such individuals to monitor pollution levels before spending extended periods outdoors, and the current AQI offers comparatively safer conditions than those seen during drier months.
The positive trend is not limited to Bengaluru. Other major cities across Karnataka have also witnessed better air quality following widespread monsoon activity. Mysuru recorded an AQI of 38, placing it in the good category, while Bagalkote reported 46, also reflecting clean air conditions.
Coastal and northern parts of the state showed slightly higher readings but remained under control. Mangaluru registered an AQI of 65 and Belagavi recorded 57, both falling within the moderate category. Experts say changes in humidity and local weather conditions may have contributed to these slightly higher values, although they do not indicate serious pollution concerns.
Overall, the latest air quality report paints a positive picture for Karnataka. With monsoon rains continuing across many regions, pollution levels remain low and residents can enjoy fresher air. If the current weather pattern persists, environmental conditions are expected to stay favourable in the coming days, offering a welcome break from urban pollution.
