Karnataka CM chair remains a subject of intense speculation

Bengaluru: The issue of the Chief Minister’s chair in Karnataka remains as contentious as ever. Despite a breakfast meeting between CM Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, the speculation continues unabated.

Today’s developments, with Siddaramaiah’s visit to Delhi, have added fuel to the fire as Congress waits for clarity on the leadership issue. On December 27, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting took place at Indira Bhavan in Delhi, where senior party leaders were in attendance.

Among them was CM Siddaramaiah, who took the opportunity to discuss the political developments in Karnataka with AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal. While the discussion sought to resolve some of the uncertainties, it seems no breakthrough was achieved.

In the meeting, Venugopal reportedly suggested that Siddaramaiah should return to Delhi in January for further talks. This led to the speculation that Siddaramaiah’s visit to Delhi was not just for the CWC meeting but also to address matters concerning Karnataka’s leadership. However, it seems that the issue remains unresolved for now.

The Karnataka CM issue is currently in the hands of Rahul Gandhi, who is expected to provide a final resolution. However, Rahul Gandhi will be abroad from December 28 and will return only on January 9. This has created further uncertainty, with the question remaining: Will there be a change in leadership? Or will Siddaramaiah complete the remaining two years of his term?

The outcome of this debate will likely unfold once Rahul Gandhi returns to India, with CM Siddaramaiah expected to visit Delhi again for cabinet reshuffle discussions. It is also likely that both Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar will travel to Delhi together, making it clear that the political situation in Karnataka will evolve rapidly after January 15.

DK Shivakumar’s Efforts to Convince the High Command

Meanwhile, DK Shivakumar has been holding on to his ambition for the CM position. He has reportedly attempted to influence the Congress high command by reaching out to Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, making his case for the CM’s post.

However, it seems Rahul Gandhi is inclined to continue with Siddaramaiah for the time being. The political tug-of-war between the two leaders is intensifying, and the final decision on the CM chair may depend on Rahul Gandhi’s return.

While it remains uncertain whether a change in leadership will happen or not, one thing is clear: Karnataka’s political drama is far from over, and the next few weeks will be crucial in shaping the future of the state’s governance.
