DK Shivakumar reiterates: “I want nothing, the high command will decide on CM post”
Bengaluru: Amid intense political discussions over the Congress leadership in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has once again clarified that he is neither seeking the Chief Minister’s post nor in a hurry for any political elevation.
He stressed that the party high command alone will decide on matters related to the Chief Ministership. Responding to media questions about his recent meeting with Nanjavadoota Swamiji of the Vokkaliga community—which sparked speculation amid ongoing factional tensions—Shivakumar said the Congress was his only community and that he respects all sections of society.
“I want nothing. I am in no hurry for anything. My party will decide. I do not belong to any single community. Congress is my community. I love and respect all sections of society,” he asserted.
“I will definitely go to Delhi”
Amid strong rumours that the high command may soon hold discussions to settle the leadership question in Karnataka, Shivakumar clarified that his upcoming trip to Delhi is linked to the winter session of Parliament and ongoing farmer-related issues.
“I will definitely go to Delhi. That is our temple. The Congress has a long history, and Delhi has always guided us. Whenever the high command calls me, the Chief Minister, or our leaders, we will go,” he said.
He further added that he has multiple responsibilities in Delhi, especially with Parliament’s winter session approaching. “I need to meet our MPs because many of our projects need to be pushed forward. The Chief Minister is already taking up state issues with the Centre. The maize crisis is serious. The Union government is not giving support to farmers. We have decided to call a meeting of factory owners soon,” he added.
Leadership tension intensifies after 2.5 years of govt
Leadership tussles within the Congress resurfaced soon after the Congress government completed two-and-a-half years in November. While Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s camp insists on stability, Shivakumar’s supporters have increased pressure for a change based on the earlier rotation formula.
MLAs meet Shivakumar
Amid rising political heat, several ruling party MLAs met Shivakumar to discuss ongoing developments. Malur MLA K.Y. Nanje Gowda, Kolar MLA Kothur Manjunath, Mulbagal MLA Adinarayan, Kunigal MLA Dr. Ranganath and Prof. M.V. Rajegowda held separate meetings with him and reportedly discussed multiple political and developmental issues.
With leadership tensions steadily rising, all eyes are now on the Congress high command, which is expected to make the final call on resolving the growing internal rift in Karnataka.
