Bengaluru Pink Line Metro Ready For Launch As Jayadeva Junction Route Nears Opening

Bengaluru is getting closer to another major addition to its public transport network, with the Pink Line Metro now nearing the start of passenger services. The section connecting Kalena Agrahara with Jayadeva Junction has reached an important stage, with officials focusing on final approvals and operational preparations.

The proposed route is expected to bring some relief to Bannerghatta Road, one of the busy corridors in the city. Once regular Metro services begin, commuters travelling towards areas connected by the Pink Line could get an alternative to road transport, potentially easing pressure on the existing traffic network.

On Wednesday, September 2, Bengaluru Urban Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya and MLA M Krishnappa inspected the project and reviewed the work at the stations. The officials also received updates from Metro authorities regarding construction, safety arrangements and preparations for opening the line.

During the inspection, the team visited Kalena Agrahara Metro station on Bannerghatta Road. Officials briefed them about the work completed at the station as well as the safety and passenger movement arrangements that need to be in place before services begin.

Krishna Byre Gowda said the Metro could start operating in September if the central government finalises the inauguration date. The statement has raised expectations among commuters who have been waiting for the new connection to become operational.

Tejasvi Surya also shared an update on the progress of the line. According to him, discussions were held with officials from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety regarding safety approval and the expected timeline. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited is reportedly working towards opening the route by the end of this month.

The remaining approvals are now an important part of the process. Surya said rolling stock approval is expected within the next 15 days, after which the remaining permissions required for the entire route are expected to follow. Coordination with the concerned authorities and the central government is also being carried out to speed up the process.

During the inspection, the officials also travelled in the Metro train from Kalena Agrahara towards Tavarekere. They used the train journey to review the route and obtain further information from Metro officials about operational readiness.

The Pink Line is particularly significant because of the Jayadeva Junction station. The station has attracted attention for its height and its multi level transport connectivity. It is designed as an important interchange point in Bengaluru’s expanding Metro network.

The first operational section will connect six stations. These are Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM Bengaluru, JP Nagar Phase 4, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere. Jayadeva Hospital will provide an interchange with the Yellow Line, giving passengers another important connection within the city’s Metro system.

For daily commuters, the opening of this section could make travel more convenient across parts of south Bengaluru. People who currently depend heavily on buses, cars and two wheelers along busy stretches of Bannerghatta Road may get another option for their regular journeys.

Tejasvi Surya has also stressed the need to expand public transport infrastructure in Bengaluru to address the city’s growing traffic problems. He argued that projects designed around mass transportation can play a bigger role in managing congestion as the city continues to expand.

However, the Pink Line still needs the required safety and operational clearances before passenger services can officially begin. The expected timeline therefore depends on the completion of these formal processes and the final decision on the inauguration date.

If the approvals arrive as expected, Bengaluru could see the Pink Line begin operations within September. For residents in the southern parts of the city, the launch would mark another step towards a wider Metro network and provide a new public transport option on one of Bengaluru’s heavily travelled corridors.
