Wildlife smuggler arrested at Kempegowda International Airport

Bengaluru A 27-year-old passenger attempting to smuggle live animals illegally from Bangkok was arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. Airport customs officials discovered live wildlife in the traveler’s luggage during routine baggage inspection.

The suspect has been booked under the Wildlife (Protection) Act and is currently under further investigation. Authorities are examining the source of the animals, their intended destination, and any links to larger wildlife trafficking networks.

Under Indian law, illegal wildlife trade is treated as a serious offense. Those involved in such cases can face imprisonment ranging from three to seven years. In certain cases, fines are also imposed depending on the severity of the crime. Smuggling or killing of rare or protected species carries even harsher punishments under the law.

This incident highlights the vigilance of airport and customs authorities in curbing wildlife trafficking and protecting endangered species. Officials continue to monitor international flights closely to prevent similar attempts in the future.
