Couple duped of crores in money-doubling scam; Andhra Pradesh duo absconding

Davanagere: In a shocking financial scam, a couple from Andhra Pradesh has allegedly defrauded women in Davanagere district of crores of rupees by promising to double their money within a week. The duo, identified as Boggu Sreeramulu and Pushpa, originally from Anantapur, are currently absconding.

According to police and victim reports, the couple targeted women across several villages in Jagalur taluk. Victims were lured into investing in the promise of high returns through a so-called “money-doubling” scheme. Renukamma reportedly sold her land and invested Rs 33 lakh, Meena contributed Rs 40 lakh, and Priyanka gave Rs 50 lakh.

Another victim, T. Thirumalesh, handed over Rs 17 lakh and filed a complaint with Jagalur police after realizing he had been defrauded. The scammers reportedly gained the victims’ trust by demonstrating “proof” of the scheme.

They allegedly recorded videos of stacks of cash in their house and shared these clips with the victims, convincing them of the scheme’s legitimacy. Using these tactics, they induced multiple individuals to invest large sums of money, promising rapid returns.

Jagalur police have registered a case based on the complaint and have begun an active search for the Andhra Pradesh-based couple. Officers are coordinating with local and inter-state authorities to trace the duo, while victims are being advised to provide detailed transaction records and any communication with the accused to aid in the investigation.

The case highlights the rising trend of fraudulent schemes targeting rural residents, especially women, who are lured by promises of quick financial gains. Authorities have warned citizens to verify investment opportunities and report suspicious activities immediately.
