Bank Customer Alert: All Banks Will Remain Open On Sunday September 27

New Delhi: In a major relief for bank customers, the Central Government has announced that all Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will remain open and function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026, ahead of the proposed three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30.

The decision has been taken to minimize inconvenience to customers and ensure uninterrupted access to essential banking services. Since the proposed strike follows the weekend holidays, there were concerns that banking services could remain disrupted for an extended period.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Finance said the move was aimed at protecting the public from prolonged disruption in banking operations. “To ensure that the genuine banking needs of the public are not adversely affected for an extended period, all Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026,” the ministry said.

The proposed nationwide strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) over several pending demands, including the implementation of a five-day work week and other employee-related issues. The government and bank management have also urged the unions to reconsider and defer the proposed strike in the larger public interest.

With banks remaining operational on September 27, customers will have an additional opportunity to complete important banking transactions such as cash withdrawals, deposits, cheque clearances, and other essential services before the three-day strike begins on September 28.
