Woman molested while walking dog; mobile phone snatched

Bengaluru: A disturbing incident occurred near Upkar Layout, Jnanabharathi, where a young woman was allegedly molested while walking her dog. The accused, an unidentified man, touched the victim inappropriately before fleeing the scene, police said. An FIR has been registered at Jnanabharathi Police Station.

The incident reportedly took place on the night of November 7. The victim had taken her pet dog for a walk near Upkar Layout. While strolling, an unknown man approached her and asked if he could pet the dog. Believing the request to be innocent, as many dog lovers often do, the woman agreed and allowed him to interact with her pet.

However, the situation quickly escalated. The man suddenly tried to touch the woman inappropriately. Startled and frightened, the victim pushed him away. When he attempted the act a second time, she retaliated by striking him on the forehead, forcing him to retreat temporarily.

During the scuffle, the woman’s mobile phone, valued at approximately ₹25,000, fell onto the road. The man reportedly picked up the phone and fled the scene, further aggravating the victim’s distress.

Bystanders rushed to the victim’s aid, but the accused managed to escape before police could intervene. Following the incident, the victim raised an alarm, and the case was formally registered under charges of sexual harassment and theft.

Jnanabharathi Police have begun investigating the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Police are also appealing to citizens who may have witnessed the incident or spotted the accused to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The case underscores growing concerns about public safety, especially for women walking alone at night. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid isolated areas after dark, and immediately report suspicious behavior. Authorities also advised dog owners to be cautious when interacting with strangers, even in seemingly routine situations.

The investigation continues, and authorities are working to identify the accused and recover the stolen mobile phone. Local police officials have confirmed that swift action will be taken to ensure the safety of residents and to hold the perpetrator accountable.
