This series is part of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship. India vs South Africa Test: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to make major changes, tea break instead of lunch.

The first Test match will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Then the second Test will start on November 22 in Guwahati. Now the BCCI is planning to make a major change in the sessions of this match. That is, in this Test, it is being considered to give a tea break instead of lunch after the first session. The BCCI has also explained the reason for this.

Tea break instead of lunch:

Actually, in Test cricket, after the start of the day’s play, a lunch break is given at the end of the first session. After that, the second session will start, and a tea break will be given at the end of this session. Then the last session of the day’s play, i.e. the third session, will begin.

This is the usual sequence in Test matches. But this sequence will change in the second Test between India and South Africa to be played in Guwahati from November 22. According to reports, a tea break will be given instead of lunch at the end of the first session.

This is because the sun sets early in Guwahati. Thus, the first session of the second Test to be played at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati will be from 9 am to 11 am, followed by a tea break from 11 am to 11:20 am.

The second session will start from 11:20 am and will go on till 1:20 pm. The lunch break will be from 1:20 pm to 2 pm, while the third session will be from 2 pm to 4 pm. Test matches in India usually start at 9:30 am. There is a 40-minute lunch break (from 11:30 am to 12:10 pm). After this, the second session will resume.

Both the teams will take a 20-minute tea break (from 2:10 pm to 2:30 pm). This will be followed by the third session from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Match officials can give teams an extra half an hour to complete the 90 overs per day. Earlier, the BCCI had also changed the session times for Ranji Trophy matches to take into account sunset.
