Self-styled ‘baba’ arrested for sending ‘black magic’ parcel to Bengaluru airport

Bengaluru : A bizarre incident at Kempegowda International Airport has taken a dramatic turn with police arresting a self-styled godman for sending a suspicious parcel containing alleged “black magic” materials to the airport authorities.
The parcel, addressed to the administrative office of the airport, had arrived through the post office. Since the address was accurate, staff members opened the package out of curiosity. However, instead of any valuable contents, they were shocked to find items typically associated with ritualistic practices, including garlands, turmeric, vermilion, sugarcane pieces, and photographs. The presence of these things reportedly caused panic among employees, who suspected occult intentions.
Following the incident, a complaint was filed at the local airport police station. Acting swiftly, the police launched an investigation and traced the sender to Hyderabad. The accused has been identified as Subhash Jai Aziz, who was subsequently arrested and brought to Bengaluru for questioning.
During interrogation, the accused claimed that he is a “devmanava” (godman) and insisted that the parcel was not sent with malicious intent. He reportedly told investigators that the items were part of a puja performed to prevent any potential aviation mishap at the airport. Citing a past air incident in Ahmedabad, he claimed he wanted to ensure such an incident does not occur in Bengaluru.
Police said the accused had recently travelled from Uttar Pradesh to Bengaluru. During his visit to the airport, he allegedly packed the ritual items he was carrying—including a garland he wore—into a box. He also included a letter written in a foreign language, believed to be Sinhala, before dispatching the parcel from the airport post office to the airport’s CEO.
The package was later delivered to the airport office, where it was opened, leading to alarm among staff. Authorities immediately informed the police, who registered a case and began a probe into the matter.
Officials confirmed that there was no explosive or harmful substance in the parcel, but the unusual nature of the contents and the intent prompted serious concern. The incident has raised questions about security protocols at sensitive locations like airports, even as police continue further investigation into the accused’s background and motives.
