Centre Ready to Evacuate Kannadigas Amid Iran–Israel Conflict: Pralhad Joshi
New Delhi/Hubballi: The Union government is fully prepared to ensure the safe return of Kannadigas stranded amid the escalating Iran–Israel conflict, Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Monday.
Addressing reporters, Joshi stated that discussions have already been held with senior officials at Indian embassies in the region to assess the situation and coordinate possible evacuation measures.
“Whenever Indians, including Kannadigas, have faced distress anywhere in the world, the Central government has stepped in and brought them back safely. We did so during the Ukraine crisis and will do so again if required,” he said.
He emphasized that the safety of Indian citizens remains the government’s top priority under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “No one needs to panic. Necessary steps are being taken after consultations with senior ministers and diplomatic officials,” Joshi assured.
According to the minister, the ongoing hostilities have made air travel from certain conflict-affected regions risky. Authorities are seeking expert advice before taking further action.
“We are monitoring the situation closely. The government is committed to protecting every Indian citizen,” he added, noting that efforts are underway to assist all affected Kannadigas, including Legislative Council member Bhojegowda, who is reportedly in the region.
Joshi also acknowledged concerns regarding Kannadigas stranded in Dubai, stating that flight operations are currently disrupted. “Serious efforts are being made to facilitate their safe return once conditions permit,” he said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he had spoken to Kannadigas stranded in Dubai and reassured them of all possible support.
In a post on X, he said he has directed the Chief Secretary to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs to secure updated information and facilitate their return at the earliest. Authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation.
