Newlywed woman shot in Patti, condition critical; CCTV footage goes viral

Chandigarh: Rising incidents of gun violence in Punjab have once again sparked concern after a 23-year-old newlywed woman was shot at in the border town of Patti. The shocking incident, captured on CCTV, has gone viral on social media, intensifying fears over deteriorating law and order in the region.

The victim, identified as Ruby, was shot near the entrance of her residence in Garden Colony on the evening of February 21. According to police sources, the attack occurred shortly after her husband, Ansh Grover, had left home on his Activa scooter for work at the market.

Family members said an unidentified approached the gate and opened fire at Ruby, leaving her critically injured. Ruby’s grandmother, Reenu Bala, stated that the family was left devastated by the sudden attack. “We are in complete shock. She had been married only two months ago,” she said.

Ruby was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital in Patti. Doctors later referred her to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar after declaring her condition critical. Medical sources confirmed that she sustained severe injuries and is undergoing intensive treatment.

Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Station House Officer Inspector Kanwaljit Rai visited the crime scene soon after the incident and initiated preliminary inquiries.

Authorities have identified the prime suspect as Karan, a resident of Patti. A manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest him. While the motive behind the attack has not been officially disclosed, police said all angles, including personal enmity, are being examined.

Ruby’s family has demanded swift justice and strict punishment for the accused. They have urged local authorities to ensure her safety and prevent further escalation.

The incident comes days after another deadly shooting in Tarn Taran district, where village sarpanch Harbhinder Singh was shot dead at a wedding function in Thathian Mahantan village. Two unidentified assailants had opened fire during the ceremony, triggering widespread outrage.

With back-to-back incidents of gun violence reported from different parts of the district, residents have expressed growing concern over public safety. Citizens are calling for stronger policing measures and immediate action to curb the recurring pattern of armed attacks in the region.
