Trader booked in Belagavi for allegedly abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi over parking dispute, video goes viral

Belagavi :A controversy has erupted in Athani town of Belagavi district after a trader allegedly used abusive and derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a heated argument over a parking issue. The incident, which occurred on Halyal Road, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage.
According to the police and local sources, the dispute began over the installation of barricades on a public road. The accused, identified as Imtiaz Chinchali, a local trader, had reportedly placed barricades in front of his shop to prevent people from parking their two-wheelers on the public road. This act drew objections from members of the public, who questioned his authority to block a public space.
Eyewitnesses said that when passersby confronted him and asked, “Who gave you the right to put up barricades on a public road?”, a verbal altercation broke out. What began as a minor argument soon escalated, with the trader allegedly losing his temper and making provocative remarks.
During the confrontation, Imtiaz Chinchali allegedly dragged the Prime Minister’s name into the argument and used highly objectionable words against Narendra Modi. He was reportedly heard saying, “If you have the courage, go and complain to Modi,” followed by abusive language directed at the Prime Minister. Several bystanders recorded the incident on their mobile phones, and the footage has since been widely circulated across social media platforms.
The viral video has sparked strong reactions online, with netizens condemning the remarks and demanding strict legal action against the accused. Many users have said that irrespective of political opinions, abusing the Prime Minister in public is unacceptable and reflects a lack of civic sense.
Reacting swiftly to the incident, local BJP leaders in Athani lodged a formal complaint at the Athani police station, demanding immediate action against the trader for insulting the Prime Minister and disturbing public order. “This is not just an argument between individuals. It is a deliberate and public insult to the constitutional office of the Prime Minister,” a BJP leader said.
The Athani police have confirmed that a case has been registered and that an investigation is underway. “We have taken cognisance of the viral video and registered a case based on the complaint. Necessary legal action will be taken against the accused after examining all available evidence,” a police official stated.
Authorities have also cautioned citizens to maintain restraint during public disputes and avoid provocative behaviour, especially in sensitive matters that could disturb communal harmony and public peace.
