Five convicted in major MDMA peddling case, Sudanese national among those sentenced

Mangaluru: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, a Mangaluru court has convicted five individuals — including a Sudanese man and a woman from Tamil Nadu — in a 2022 MDMA peddling case.

The sentences were pronounced by Principal District and Sessions Judge Basavaraj on Saturday, marking one of the major convictions under the NDPS Act in the region.

The primary accused, Lual Daniel Justin Boulo alias Danny, a Sudanese national residing in Bengaluru’s Gunturupalya, received 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and a ₹1.25 lakh fine under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act. He was also sentenced to six months’ RI and a ₹10,000 fine under Section 27(B).

The remaining convicts — all linked to drug networks operating between Karnataka and Kerala — received similarly stringent punishments.

Mohammad Rameez of Uppala, Kasaragod, was sentenced to 14 years and six months RI and fined ₹1.55 lakh.

Moiddeen Rashid, also from Kasaragod, received 12 years and six months RI and a ₹1.35 lakh fine.

Abdul Raouf alias Tuff Raouf, from Uppala, was awarded 13 years and six months RI and fined ₹1.45 lakh.

Sabitha alias Chinchuu, originally from Ooty and residing in Bengaluru’s Madivala, was given 12 years and six months RI along with a ₹1.45 lakh fine.

The case dates back to June 14, 2022, when CCB Inspector Mahesh Prasad and his team carried out a raid near Padil Junction based on credible intelligence.

The accused were allegedly preparing to supply MDMA to students in Bengaluru, and 125 grams of MDMA were seized during the operation. A case was registered at the CEN Police Station, and Inspector Satish M.P. later filed the chargesheet.

During the trial at the Mangaluru NDPS Special Court, 24 witnesses were examined. Public Prosecutor Judith O.M. Crasta argued the case, leading to the conviction of all five accused.
