Rahul Jarkiholi appointed Belagavi Apex Bank representative, Jarkiholi family asserts district influence

Belagavi: Amid intense discussions over a possible chief ministerial change in the state, significant developments have quietly unfolded in Belagavi’s district politics. The much-anticipated appointment of the Apex Bank representative, a post many expected former DCM Laxman Savadi to secure again, has taken a surprising turn as the Jarkiholi family asserted their influence.

Balchandra Jarkiholi, MLA from Arabhavi, announced that Rahul Jarkiholi, son of District Minister Satish Jarkiholi and a board member of the bank, has been chosen as the new Apex Bank representative from Belagavi DCC Bank.

“Every DCC Bank nominates one representative to the Apex Bank. These district representatives collectively choose the Apex Bank president, which is one of the most prestigious positions in the state,” Balchandra said during a media interaction.

Historically, the position has been highly sought after by legislators and those with experience in the cooperative sector. In the current political context, Laxman Savadi had his eyes on the post, but the Jarkiholi brothers’ decision to nominate their own family member has dashed his hopes.

Rahul Jarkiholi’s selection marks a continuation of the Jarkiholi family’s influence in Belagavi district politics. “Every five years, a representative is sent from the DCC Bank to the Apex Bank in Bengaluru. After discussions with the DCC Bank president, the District Minister, and myself, we decided on Rahul Jarkiholi.

He will serve as a liaison between the Apex and DCC Banks, and the government’s presence will ensure smooth facilitation of benefits. Rahul will serve a five-year term,” Balchandra added.

He further explained that the representative seat from Apex Bank is traditionally allotted to the Kuruba community, considering both social expectations and what would benefit the bank and society.

Speaking to the media after his selection, Rahul Jarkiholi expressed gratitude and emphasized his responsibilities: “I thank the president, vice president, and all directors who chose me. The responsibility is significant, and I will work earnestly to bring government benefits and schemes to Belagavi DCC Bank. This is my first entry into the cooperative sector at a young age, and I will move forward with expert guidance.”

With this appointment, the Jarkiholi family has once again reinforced its political clout in Belagavi, while former aspirants like Laxman Savadi have been sidelined, highlighting the continuing power dynamics within the district’s cooperative banking sector.
