Senior Congress leader H Y Meti (79), who was suffering from illness, has passed away. He was a Congress MLA from Bagalkote and died in a private hospital in Bengaluru after treatment failed.
Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met H Y Meti at a private hospital and inquired about his health. H Y Meti, who was an MLA from Bagalkote assembly constituency, was born on October 9, 1946 in Thimmapur.
H Y Meti, who was also the Chairman of Bagalkote Town Development Authority and Director of Bagalkote DCC Bank, was first elected as an MLA from Guledagudda constituency in 1989. In 1994, he won for the second time from Guledagudda from JDS and served as the Forest Minister in the Deve Gowda cabinet.
Later, in 1996, he was elected as the MP from Bagalkot constituency and won again from Guledagudda constituency in 2004. He left JDS in 2008 and joined Congress. He contested from Bagalkot from Congress in 2008 and lost. Later, in 2013, Meti, who won from Bagalkot constituency, had also served as Excise Minister in the Siddaramaiah cabinet. H.Y. Meti, who lost in the 2018 assembly elections, would have contested from Bagalkot from Congress in 2023 and won.
H Y Meti’s funeral will be held tomorrow with full state honours in his hometown of Thimmapur in Bagalkot district. Congress party leaders including CM Siddaramaiah will participate in the event.
