BTech student dies after inhaling pesticide fumes in HAL PG
Bengaluru, : A 22-year-old BTech student from Tirupati died after allegedly inhaling toxic fumes from a bedbug pesticide sprayed inside his paying guest (PG) room in the HAL police station limits.
The deceased has been identified as Pawan, a native of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. According to police, the PG management had sprayed pesticide in one of the rooms for bedbug control while Pawan was away visiting his hometown a week ago. The room was locked after fumigation, but the student was reportedly unaware of it.
Upon returning to Bengaluru, Pawan entered the room and went to sleep without ventilating it. By morning, he was found unconscious. Fellow residents alerted the PG staff, who rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary reports suggest that he may have died due to inhalation of toxic fumes from the pesticide. His body has been sent to Bowring Hospital for postmortem examination.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety standards and negligence of PG operators in Bengaluru, as the management allegedly failed to inform residents about the fumigation. HAL Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further.
