Asia Cup 2025: BCCI sends strong warning to Pakistan after trophy drama
Asia Cup 2025: India beat Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup 2025 final to win the title. The victory, however, was overshadowed by significant controversy during the post-match presentation ceremony. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sends strong warning to Pakistan after trophy drama.
The Indian team refused to accept the winner’s trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan’s Interior Minister.
The Indian team’s decision was reportedly a protest against Mohsin Naqvi’s political stance and a series of strained exchanges and incidents between the two teams throughout the tournament.
Due to the standoff, the presentation was delayed, and Naqvi reportedly insisted he would present the trophy. Consequently, the trophy was not awarded to the Indian team, and the players celebrated their victory without the physical trophy or their winner’s medals on the podium.

Indian players did receive their individual awards, such as Player of the Match (Tilak Varma) and Player of the Tournament (Abhishek Sharma), which were presented by other dignitaries on the stage.
The “trophy drama” refers to the chaotic events following India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai. The BCCI’s strong warning to Pakistan came from BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, and it was directed at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president, Mohsin Naqvi.
Following the standoff, the trophy and medals were controversially taken away, allegedly by Mohsin Naqvi, and the presentation ceremony was abruptly concluded without the champions receiving the silverware.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia condemned the act as “very unfortunate, very unsporting,” and issued a strong demand, stating. The BCCI expects the trophy and medals to be returned to India as soon as possible.
The BCCI will launch a “very serious and very strong protest” against the actions of the ACC chairperson at the upcoming ICC conference in November in Dubai. The Indian team eventually celebrated on the podium without the physical trophy.
