India vs West Indies Test series: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against the West Indies. Shubman Gill will lead the side in his first home assignment as Test captain. Ravindra Jadeja has been named the Vice-Captain. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the squad. Devdutt Padikkal and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been brought back into the squad.
Wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel is the first-choice wicketkeeper, with N. Jagadeesan as the back-up, as Rishabh Pant is still recovering from injury. Karun Nair has been dropped from the squad. The two-match Test series is scheduled to begin on October 2nd.
Karun Nair was excluded from India’s squad for the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies (scheduled for November 2025). Chief selector Ajit Agarkar cited his underwhelming performance during the recent Test series in England, where he managed only one half-century in four matches. Agarkar stated that the management “expected more” from him and that a decision was made to move in a different direction.

Nair’s place was taken by fellow Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal, who made a comeback into the Test squad. The “Three Kannadigas” in the Indian Team.
Based on the latest squad announcement and typical Karnataka representation, the three players are:
1. KL Rahul (Batsman/Wicketkeeper)
2. Devdutt Padikkal (Batsman – Replaced Karun Nair)
3. Prasidh Krishna (Fast Bowler)
Mayank Agarwal, another prominent Kannadiga player, was not part of the current Test squad announcement. Therefore, Padikkal’s inclusion ensures Karnataka’s strong representation remains in the national team despite Nair’s exit.
