The nomination deadline is today, Sunday, September 21, 2025. Following constitutional changes in 2019, the post of BCCI President has typically been filled unopposed, with the board favoring former cricketers for the top role.

Who is Mithun Manhas?

Mithun Manhas is a well-known figure in Indian domestic cricket. The 45-year-old right-handed batsman never played for the Indian national team but had a long and distinguished career, primarily with Delhi, before finishing with Jammu and Kashmir. He is set to become the first uncapped player to lead the BCCI.

His career highlights include:

Ranji Trophy: Manhas was a key player and captain for Delhi, leading the team to a Ranji Trophy title in the 2007-08 season. He was a prolific run-scorer, amassing 9,714 runs in 157 first-class matches with an impressive average of 45.82.

Mithun Manhas participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for several teams throughout his career. He began his IPL journey with the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), playing for the franchise from 2008 to 2010.

He then moved to the now-defunct Pune Warriors India, where he played from 2011 to 2013. In 2014, he was part of the Chennai Super Kings team.

Across his seven seasons in the IPL, Manhas played 55 matches and scored a total of 514 runs, with a highest score of 42 not out. His overall batting average in the league was 22.35. After retiring from playing, he has also held coaching positions with IPL teams, serving as an assistant coach for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Royal Challengers Bangalore, and currently, the Gujarat Titans.

Administrative Experience: Manhas has gained valuable administrative experience through his work with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), where he served as Director of Cricket Operations and represented the state at BCCI’s AGMs.

Manhas’s blend of extensive on-field experience and administrative background is seen as a key factor in his candidacy for one of the most powerful positions in world cricket. He will succeed Roger Binny, whose term as BCCI President ended after he reached the mandatory retirement age of 70.
