There’s a three-day suspension of milk and dairy product sales from July 23 to July 25. This means you can expect limited or no availability of milk, curd, and other dairy items during these days. Some Nandini booths have also extended their support to the protest.

Bakery Products: Bakeries, condiment shops, and petty stores are expected to be completely shut down on July 25 as part of the full bandh.

Why the Protest?

Small traders are protesting against tax demands based on their digital payment transactions (UPI and bank transfers) exceeding the GST registration threshold (Rs 40 lakh for goods and Rs 20 lakh for services).

Many claim they are facing excessive and retrospective tax demands, even for transactions that might include personal transfers, and that they were not adequately informed about GST compliance when they adopted digital payments. They feel unfairly targeted and that their livelihoods are under threat.

Overall Impact of the Bandh:

Shops and Businesses: Most small retail stores, bakeries, condiment stalls, and tea/coffee outlets are expected to be closed on July 25.

Public Transport: While essential services like hospitals and medical stores are likely to remain open, and public transport (BMTC, KSRTC, metro) is generally expected to function unless unions join, there could be delays or disruptions.

Other Services: Banking and insurance services might be affected. Many private firms may implement work-from-home options.

The protest aims to draw the government’s attention to the traders’ grievances and demand for relaxation windows for micro-businesses, awareness programs, and dialogue with trader unions.
