Delhi University student body found in river after missing 6 days
Delhi University student: The body of a 19-year-old Delhi University student, Sneha Debnath, who had been missing for six days, was recovered from the Yamuna River near the Geeta Colony flyover in Delhi on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Sneha, originally from Tripura, was a B.Sc. Mathematics (Honours) student at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College. She had been missing since July 7. Police reported that a handwritten note was found at her residence, indicating an intention to jump from the Signature Bridge.
A cab driver also confirmed dropping her at the Signature Bridge on the day she went missing, and eyewitnesses reported seeing a girl standing alone on the bridge. A joint search operation involving the Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had been underway, covering a wide area along the Yamuna River.

Her family has expressed concerns regarding the lack of functional CCTV cameras on and around the Signature Bridge, which they believe hampered the search efforts and the investigation. Friends close to Sneha stated she had been in emotional distress in the months leading up to her disappearance.
While initial assessments suggest drowning as the cause of death, a forensic examination is underway to confirm the circumstances. The case remains under investigation.
