Indian Railways Fare Increase:
Non-AC Classes (Mail/Express trains): Fares have increased by 1 paisa per kilometer.
AC Classes (Mail/Express trains): Fares have increased by 2 paise per kilometer. This includes all AC categories like Chair Car, 3-Tier/3-Economy, 2-Tier, and First/Executive Class.

Ordinary Non-AC Classes (Non-suburban trains):
No increase for journeys up to 500 km.
For distances between 501-1500 km, there’s a Rs 5 hike.
For distances between 1501-2500 km, there’s a Rs 10 hike.
For distances between 2501-3000 km, there’s a Rs 15 hike.
Sleeper Class and First Class in ordinary trains have seen a hike of 0.5 paisa per kilometer.
No change in fares for suburban rail networks and monthly season tickets for both suburban and non-suburban trains.
The revised fares apply to premier and special train services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, etc.
Tickets booked before July 1, 2025, at pre-revised rates will remain valid without any extra charge.

Mandatory Aadhaar for Tatkal Ticket Booking:
From July 1, 2025: Only Aadhaar-authenticated users are eligible to book Tatkal tickets through the IRCTC website or mobile app. Users need to link their Aadhaar card with their IRCTC account and verify it.
From July 15, 2025: Aadhaar-based OTP authentication will become mandatory for all Tatkal bookings, whether done online (through IRCTC website/app) or offline (at Passenger Reservation System counters and through authorized agents). The OTP will be sent to the mobile number provided by the user during booking.
Restrictions on Agents: Authorized Indian Railways ticketing agents are now prohibited from booking opening-day Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window.
This means agents cannot book AC class Tatkal tickets from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, and non-AC class Tatkal tickets from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
These changes are aimed at curbing misuse of the Tatkal booking system, ensuring fair access for genuine passengers, improving service sustainability, and simplifying fare calculations.
In addition to these, Indian Railways has also launched the RailOne mobile application on July 1, 2025, which aims to be a unified platform for ticket booking, food ordering, live train tracking, and more. The preparation of reservation charts for long-distance trains will now be done eight hours before departure, instead of the earlier four hours.
