Free AI Training at IIT Dharwad With Hostel and Monthly Stipend
IIT Dharwad has opened applications for a free year long residential Artificial Intelligence training programme under PM VIKAS with hostel meals stipend and placement support for eligible candidates online.
A useful opportunity is available for graduates looking to build skills in Artificial Intelligence. IIT Dharwad is conducting a one year residential skill development programme under the PM VIKAS scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. The course is titled Artificial Intelligence Technocrat and carries the course code ICE ITS Q0201.
The programme is intended primarily for graduates from minority communities. According to the official IIT Dharwad programme website, applicants must be between 18 and 45 years of age and belong to one of the recognised minority communities, including Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi communities.
Selected candidates will receive training at IIT Dharwad for one year. The programme also includes hostel facilities wherever applicable, making it a residential opportunity for eligible participants who may otherwise find the cost of training and accommodation difficult to manage.
Money support is another attraction. Participants will receive a monthly stipend of ₹1,000 through direct benefit transfer from the Ministry. After completing the programme, successful candidates will also receive post placement support for two months, with financial assistance of up to ₹4,000 for candidates who successfully secure employment.
The training is expected to give participants an opportunity to develop practical knowledge in Artificial Intelligence while studying in an IIT environment. Candidates who successfully complete the programme will receive certification from the Sector Skill Council or the Government of India, according to the official programme details.
Women candidates also have a specific reservation in the programme. The official information states that 33 percent of seats are reserved for female students. Up to 15 percent of seats are reserved for candidates from non minority communities who fall under the Economically Weaker Section category.
Selection will not be automatic for every applicant. IIT Dharwad says applications will go through a screening process before the final list of candidates is prepared. Applicants are required to submit documents including Aadhaar, a passport size photograph, a Class 10 certificate for age proof, graduation certificate, bank passbook and relevant EWS or minority community documentation.
The programme could be particularly useful for graduates who want to enter the growing technology sector but are looking for a structured learning route without paying regular training fees. The combination of free training, residential facilities, certification and employment support makes it different from a standard short term online course.
The official IIT Dharwad PM VIKAS portal is accepting applications for the 2026 to 27 programme. Applicants should check the official portal for the current application deadline and eligibility requirements before submitting their forms, as programme conditions can be updated by the Ministry.
