Karnataka Weather Forecast: Rain and Strong Winds Expected Across Several Districts
Karnataka is likely to see changing weather conditions over the coming days, with coastal and interior districts expected to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by strong winds.
The southwest monsoon continues to influence weather conditions across Karnataka, with rain and strong winds expected in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds across the coastal, north interior and south interior subdivisions for August 16.
Coastal Karnataka is likely to remain among the areas closely watched for changing weather. Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada may experience light to moderate rainfall along with strong winds. Winds in some locations could reach around 30 to 40 kmph.
The forecast also points to windy conditions across parts of North Interior Karnataka. Dharwad and Gadag could receive light to moderate rain with stronger winds reaching around 40 to 50 kmph at some locations.
Belagavi, Haveri and Koppal may also see light to moderate showers accompanied by winds of around 30 to 40 kmph in isolated areas. Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Bagalkot, Raichur, Bidar and Yadgir are expected to experience strong winds, with speeds potentially reaching 40 to 50 kmph.
South Interior Karnataka is not expected to remain completely dry either. Parts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban could receive light to moderate rain along with winds of around 30 to 40 kmph.
The weather department has advised people to remain cautious in areas where strong winds, lightning or thunderstorms are possible. Farmers and residents in vulnerable locations may need to take extra care, particularly during periods of sudden weather changes.
The latest outlook suggests that rainfall will not be uniform across the state. Some districts may receive only brief showers, while others could experience more noticeable rain and windy conditions depending on local weather patterns.
For August 16, the IMD warning specifically covers thunderstorms and lightning along with strong surface winds across all three Karnataka subdivisions. The warning is currently focused on the day, with no corresponding warning listed for August 17 and the following days in the subdivision warning page.
Residents should therefore keep an eye on local weather updates before travelling or planning outdoor activities, especially in coastal and interior areas where sudden showers and strong winds can affect conditions quickly.
