Karnataka Very heavy rainfall alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several weather warnings across the state. A red alert has been declared in six districts including Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru, warning of heavy rains in the next three days.

Orange alerts are in effect for Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, and Bidar, while yellow alerts cover Bagalkote, Yadgir, Haveri, Gadag, and Hassan districts. Due to heavy rains in Madikeri, the water level of the Cauvery river has dropped sharply, and the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir in Mandya district has seen a sharp rise of 103 feet in just a week.

Charmadi Ghat is currently shrouded in thick fog, although the rains in the Western Ghats have temporarily stopped. Tourists continue to flock to the waterfalls in the region during this time of clear weather. Roads in Gumballi village in Yalandur taluk of Chamarajanagar district have been severely damaged due to rain, causing inconvenience to commuters.

There have also been reports of snakes being spotted more frequently in the Malnad region, including a Kalinga snake captured by snake keeper Arjun from the rooftop of Hulagaru Bailu village.

In the wake of the increasing frequency of landslides and floods in Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka Forest Minister Ishwar Khandre has ordered a study on the carrying capacity of the Western Ghats. The committee will submit a detailed report to the Additional Chief Secretary within three months.
