Namma Metro Green Line to Get Three New Trains from August, Reducing Waiting Time

BMRCL is set to introduce three new trains on Bengaluru's Green Line from August, aiming to ease overcrowding and improve service frequency for thousands of daily commuters.

Commuters on Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Green Line are set to receive a major boost from August, with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) planning to introduce three new trains to improve services on one of the city’s busiest corridors.

The move comes as passenger numbers continue to rise across both the Green and Purple lines, with the metro network now carrying more than one million passengers every day. Overcrowding during peak hours has become a major concern, prompting BMRCL to expand its fleet.

The three new train sets, manufactured by CRRC, have already arrived in Bengaluru. They are expected to enter service next month on the Silk Institute–Madavara Green Line, helping increase the number of operational trains on the route.

With the addition of the new trains, the total number of services on the Green Line will increase from 24 to 27. This expansion is expected to improve train frequency and reduce waiting times for passengers.

Currently, trains on the Green Line operate every five minutes during peak hours and every eight minutes during non-peak periods. From August, BMRCL plans to reduce the peak-hour interval to around 3.5 minutes, while off-peak services are expected to run every six to seven minutes.

Metro officials believe the improved frequency will help distribute passenger loads more evenly, making travel more comfortable and reducing congestion at stations and inside trains.

The addition of the new trains is part of BMRCL’s broader efforts to strengthen Bengaluru’s rapidly growing metro network and provide faster, more reliable public transport for the city’s expanding commuter base.
