LPG Consumers Alert: Complete e-KYC by June 30 to Continue Gas Subsidy

The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has issued a fresh advisory for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consumers, making e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) mandatory to continue receiving LPG subsidies. LPG Consumers Alert: Complete e-KYC by June 30 to Continue Gas Subsidy.

e-KYC Mandatory for All Subsidy Beneficiaries:

The Central Government has directed that all LPG consumers receiving subsidies, including beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), must complete their e-KYC verification by June 30.

Consumers using Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, or HP Gas who fail to complete the verification within the deadline may face suspension of their LPG subsidy until their e-KYC is completed.

Why Has e-KYC Been Made Mandatory:

The government says the move is aimed at ensuring that LPG subsidies reach only genuine beneficiaries and preventing misuse of the subsidy system through Aadhaar-based biometric verification.

Note: Some of the claims circulating about global geopolitical events—such as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz being the reason for this requirement—have not been officially cited by the Government of India or oil marketing companies as the reason for the e-KYC drive. Consumers should rely on official announcements for the stated purpose of the exercise.

Earlier, the requirement mainly applied to PMUY beneficiaries, but under the latest instructions, all LPG subsidy recipients who have not yet completed e-KYC must do so by the end of this month. Those who have already completed the process do not need to repeat it.

In an advisory issued on June 12, Indian Oil urged customers to complete their e-KYC immediately to ensure uninterrupted LPG subsidy benefits. The company stated that the process is simple, secure, and completely free of cost, and advised consumers to complete it before June 30.

How to Complete e-KYC from Home:

Consumers can complete the process using their smartphones through the official apps:

Indane Gas customers: Use the IndianOil One app along with the Aadhaar FaceRD app.

Bharat Gas customers: Use the Hello BPCL app.

HP Gas customers: Use the HP Pay app.

After logging in, enter the OTP sent to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar and complete the face authentication using the Aadhaar FaceRD app.

Customers who have never completed Aadhaar biometric verification since obtaining their LPG connection should visit their nearest LPG distributor or gas agency to complete the process free of charge. To avoid any interruption in receiving LPG subsidy directly into your bank account, consumers are advised to complete their e-KYC before the June 30 deadline.
