Newly Married Woman Dies After Falling From Hilltop Temple During Monkey Scare

A temple visit turned tragic after a newly married woman lost her balance and fell from a hilltop while frightened by monkeys that surrounded her during the visit.

A newly married woman lost her life in a tragic accident during a visit to a hilltop temple in Tamil Nadu after she reportedly lost her balance while trying to escape a group of monkeys.

The incident took place in Thoothukudi district, where 24 year old Anita and her husband Suresh had travelled to offer prayers. Suresh, who works overseas, had recently returned home, and the couple decided to visit the famous Kalugasalamoorthy Temple after their marriage.

After completing rituals at the main shrine, the couple climbed to the Uchipillaiyar Temple located on the hilltop. While feeding fruits to monkeys near the temple, several animals suddenly gathered around them. Startled by the unexpected situation, Anita reportedly panicked, lost her footing and fell from the hill.

The accident left her husband in shock as bystanders immediately alerted the authorities. Police, along with fire and rescue personnel, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Anita was later recovered from the gorge, but she had succumbed to her injuries.

Her body was shifted for postmortem examination, and police have registered a case. Investigators said they are examining all circumstances surrounding the incident to determine exactly how the fatal fall occurred.

The tragedy has once again highlighted the need for visitors to remain cautious while interacting with wild animals at tourist and religious destinations, especially in elevated areas where even a small slip can have devastating consequences.
