Minor assault survivor attempts suicide in Amravati, police rescue her

Amaravathi ; A minor girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted attempted suicide in Amravati, but was rescued in time by alert police personnel, officials said on Sunday.
According to police, the survivor had gone to the Vajjar dam with the intention of ending her life. However, officers present in the area noticed her behaviour and intervened swiftly, preventing the attempt. She has since been shifted to safety and is receiving counselling and medical care.
The incident is linked to a shocking sexual abuse case involving accused Mohammed Ayaz alias Tanveer, who is alleged to have assaulted multiple minor girls. Police said the accused not only committed the offences but also recorded the acts on his mobile phone.
During the investigation, officials recovered over 350 objectionable videos from the accused’s device. Preliminary findings suggest that nearly 180 minor girls may have been targeted, although only a limited number of victims have formally approached the police so far.
The case came to light after some of the videos surfaced on social media, triggering outrage and prompting immediate action by law enforcement authorities. So far, at least eight victims have filed complaints under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In a related development, police have arrested another accused, Uzair Khan, for allegedly circulating the videos online. Investigators said a fallout between Ayaz and Uzair led to the exposure of the crimes. It is alleged that Uzair accessed the phone and uploaded the content on social media platforms.
Police have seized several electronic devices, including mobile phones, a laptop, hard disks and a tablet, as part of the probe. Authorities believe further analysis of these devices could reveal more victims and additional links in the case.
During interrogation, Ayaz reportedly admitted to luring girls to a friend’s house where the assaults took place. He is also said to have paid money to use the premises.
The case has raised serious concerns over child safety, digital abuse, and the psychological trauma faced by victims. Police have urged affected individuals and their families to come forward, assuring strict legal action against all those involved.
