Trump orders military strike on ISIS militants in Nigeria over Christian killings

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered a powerful military strike against ISIS militants in northeastern Nigeria, after reports surfaced of the Islamic State’s continued attacks on Christians in the region.

The directive comes amid growing international outrage over the increasing number of Christian deaths attributed to ISIS militants, with an estimated 7,000 Christians killed in Nigeria in 2025 alone.

The U.S. president made this announcement on his Truth Social account, describing the ISIS militants as “terrorist scum” and condemning their ruthless targeting of innocent Christians.

He emphasized that this attack would serve as a response to the brutal killings, which have been ongoing for years in the region. Trump also warned the militants that they would face “hell” if they continued their violent campaign against Christians.

In his post, Trump stated, “Under my direction as Commander-in-Chief, this strike is being carried out. These terrorists have been committing mass murder on an unprecedented scale, particularly against defenseless Christians. Their actions cannot go unpunished.”

The U.S. president’s decision to strike ISIS militants in Nigeria comes after reports that the group has intensified its attacks, with Christians being specifically targeted. These attacks have sparked widespread condemnation, not only for their brutality but also for their religious and sectarian nature.

Trump’s decision to launch airstrikes against the militants coincides with the Christmas season, a time when Christians worldwide commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Trump explained, “If they don’t stop the killing of Christians, they will face hell. I have already warned these terrorists. On Christmas Eve, these terrorists continued to kill Christians, and that’s why I’ve ordered this strike. The U.S. military has executed several perfect strikes. Only America can perform such swift actions.”

In addition to his military strike order, President Trump has also been vocal about the dire situation of Christians in Nigeria. Over the last few months, he has repeatedly expressed concern over the persecution of Christians in the African nation. He also took action by issuing a partial travel ban on Nigerians, citing the threat posed by Islamic militants.

In November, Trump instructed his Defense Secretary to ensure that the U.S. would take all necessary actions to protect Christians in Nigeria, including using military force when required. His administration has also promised to take further steps to contain the growing threat of radical Islamic terrorism emanating from parts of Africa.
