Karnataka to Launch ‘Namma Guide’ App for Tourists; Here’s How Visitors Can Book Local Guides

The Karnataka government is planning to introduce the ‘Namma Guide’ digital platform to help tourists connect with certified local guides, enhancing travel experiences while creating employment opportunities across the state.

In a major push to strengthen Karnataka’s tourism sector, the state government is working on a new digital initiative called ‘Namma Guide’, aimed at connecting tourists with certified local guides across popular destinations. The move is expected to improve visitor experiences while promoting the state’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

The proposal is being developed under the guidance of Tourism Minister K.J. George. Officials believe the platform will help domestic and international tourists access reliable information about Karnataka’s iconic destinations through trained and government-recognized guides.

Inspired by systems already in use at several global tourist destinations, the project will feature a dedicated website and mobile application. Through this digital platform, travelers will be able to search, compare, and book local guides before visiting a destination.

The initiative is also expected to provide regular employment opportunities for hundreds of guides already registered with the Tourism Department. In addition to assisting visitors, guides may also play a greater role in promoting cleanliness, heritage conservation, and responsible tourism practices at major tourist sites.

How Tourists Can Choose Guides on the Namma Guide App

Select a Tourist Destination
Users can begin by searching for and selecting the tourist destination they wish to visit. Popular attractions such as Hampi, Mysuru Palace, Jog Falls, Belur, and Halebidu are expected to be listed on the platform.

View Registered Guides

Once a destination is selected, the app will display a list of officially registered local guides associated with that location. This will help tourists connect with authorized professionals instead of relying on unverified sources.

Choose Preferred Language

Visitors can filter guides based on language preferences. Options may include Kannada, English, Hindi, and other foreign languages, making the service convenient for both domestic and international travelers.

Check Profiles and Ratings

Each guide will have a detailed profile showcasing their experience, areas of expertise, and visitor reviews. Travelers can compare ratings and feedback before making a booking decision.

Book Online in Advance

The platform will allow tourists to check guide availability by date and time. Similar to international tourism booking systems, users can reserve a guide online before their trip, ensuring a smooth and well-planned travel experience.

Tourism Sector Gets a Digital Boost

Officials believe the Namma Guide platform will make Karnataka’s tourism ecosystem more organized and accessible. By enabling direct interaction between tourists and certified guides, the initiative aims to improve visitor satisfaction while creating sustainable opportunities for local tourism professionals.
