A brief airspace incident involving an Air India flight triggered concern on Monday night after the aircraft reportedly crossed into Pakistani territory for a short period during its journey from Delhi to Amritsar.
The flight, AI-321, departed from Delhi as scheduled and was expected to land in Amritsar later in the evening. However, during the flight, an unexpected situation led to the aircraft momentarily entering Pakistani airspace, according to aviation officials.
Sources said the pilot became aware of the deviation after receiving alerts from Pakistan’s air traffic control authorities. The incident comes at a time when relations between India and Pakistan remain sensitive, drawing additional attention to the matter.
Airport officials indicated that the aircraft experienced a technical issue while en route. Following instructions from aviation authorities, the flight did not continue directly to its destination and instead returned to Delhi as a precautionary measure.
After necessary checks and clearance procedures, the aircraft departed again a few hours later and successfully completed its journey to Amritsar without further complications.
Officials stressed that the aircraft’s entry into Pakistani airspace was minimal and lasted only briefly. Preliminary reports suggest that the plane did not travel deep into foreign airspace before corrective action was taken.
Air India has confirmed that an internal review is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and assess whether any operational or technical factors contributed to the deviation.
Aviation authorities are expected to examine flight data and communication records as part of the investigation. No injuries or safety concerns involving passengers have been reported.
