Sony Xperia 1 VIII Rumored to Feature Redesigned Rear Camera Module and Modernized Front Design

The upcoming Xperia 1 VIII may introduce a square-shaped rear camera module, hole-punch front camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and global launch hints through certification listings

Sony appears to be preparing for the launch of its next-generation Xperia 1 VIII, which could bring significant design updates compared to its predecessor. Recent certification listings for the Xperia 1 VIII and Xperia 10 VIII suggest these models will replace the previous Xperia 1 VII and Xperia 10 VII in the global lineup. The listings, including model numbers XQ-GE44 and XQ-GH44, point to potential availability in Japan, Europe, and Asian markets.

Leaks indicate that the Xperia 1 VIII will feature a square-shaped rear camera module, moving away from Sony’s traditional vertical camera layout. The module is expected to house three cameras along with an LED flash, while small cutouts around the module may serve microphones or autofocus sensors. A telephoto lens is also rumored to be part of the new setup.

The front design is expected to adopt a modern hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, replacing the older top bezel design seen in previous Xperia models. This change aligns with current trends for maximizing screen real estate while maintaining a clean aesthetic.

Performance-wise, the Xperia 1 VIII may be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with the Adreno 830 GPU. If the device builds on the previous Xperia 1 VII, users can expect a high-refresh-rate display and robust multimedia capabilities. The Xperia 1 VII featured a 6.5 inch FHD+ OLED HDR display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling, along with a 5000mAh battery supporting 30W fast charging.

The Xperia 1 VII’s triple rear camera system included a 48MP primary sensor, and while Sony has not revealed official specifications for the Xperia 1 VIII, the new design hints at upgraded optics and photography features. Certification and IMEI database listings do not provide detailed specs but reinforce expectations for a premium global launch.

With these design and performance updates, the Xperia 1 VIII may mark a significant step in Sony’s smartphone lineup, combining modern aesthetics with advanced hardware tailored for photography and multimedia enthusiasts.
