The Indian smartphone manufacturing landscape is set for another major shift, with Oppo, OnePlus and Realme preparing to increase local production through electronics manufacturer Amber Enterprises.

According to reports, Amber is expected to begin the first phase of manufacturing in March 2027. The company plans to start with trial production and gradually increase capacity as operations become more established.

The move comes as smartphone brands continue to look for more flexible manufacturing arrangements in India. Oppo Mobiles India is reportedly involved in the arrangement, which covers Oppo, OnePlus and Realme.

Amber is targeting production of around 8 million smartphones during the first year. The company plans to scale up manufacturing in stages, with production expected to rise further in the following year.

To support the new business, Amber has also appointed a Chief Operating Officer. Company executives have indicated that preparations for the smartphone manufacturing operation are already underway.

The development is particularly significant because Oppo, OnePlus and Realme have a strong presence in India’s smartphone market. All three brands are associated with the broader BBK Electronics group, although they operate as separate brands.

India has increasingly become an important manufacturing base for major smartphone companies. Brands are expanding local assembly and production to reduce dependence on overseas manufacturing while strengthening their supply chains within the country.

At present, Oppo smartphones for the Indian market are manufactured in Noida. The wider manufacturing ecosystem is also seeing partnerships and restructuring involving companies such as Vivo and Dixon Technologies.

Amber’s entry into smartphone manufacturing could therefore add another sizeable player to India’s electronics production sector. If the planned schedule stays on track, consumers could start seeing smartphones made through the new production arrangement from 2027.

The initial focus will be on establishing a stable manufacturing process. Once the trial phase is completed, production can be expanded in line with demand from the three smartphone brands.
