MG Motor Hector Tomahawk EV Launched With 517 Km Range and BaaS Option

MG Motor has expanded its electric vehicle lineup in India with the launch of the Hector Tomahawk EV. The new electric SUV arrives with multiple seating options, a sizeable battery pack and a claimed MIDC range of 517 kilometres on a single charge.

One of the main talking points is the pricing strategy. With the Battery as a Service option, the Hector Tomahawk EV starts at around 13.99 lakh rupees, ex showroom. Buyers choosing this arrangement will additionally pay a battery rental of about 4.9 rupees per kilometre.

For customers who prefer to purchase the battery along with the vehicle, prices are reported to range from around 19.49 lakh rupees to 23.49 lakh rupees, ex showroom. MG is also offering the SUV in a five seater configuration, while a seven seater version is available as well. A plug in hybrid electric version has also been introduced as part of the new lineup.

The Hector Tomahawk EV measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,770 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,810 mm, according to media reports. The dimensions give it a substantial road presence, with the company claiming that it is among the longest and tallest offerings in its segment.

Space is another area where the SUV aims to stand out. The five seater version reportedly offers about 610 litres of boot capacity, while the seven seater model provides around 528 litres. This makes the electric SUV suitable for buyers who place importance on luggage space and everyday practicality.

Power comes from a 69.2 kWh battery paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The setup produces a peak output of 204 hp and 310 Nm of torque. MG claims that the Hector Tomahawk EV can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in around 8.2 seconds.

Charging is also designed to make longer journeys easier. When connected to a 90 kW DC fast charger, the battery can reportedly charge from 30 percent to 80 percent in about 35 minutes. The claimed MIDC range stands at approximately 517 kilometres, although real world range can vary depending on driving conditions, traffic, weather and driving style.

The exterior gets a modern lighting setup, including LED projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights at the front. The MG logo sits between the lighting elements, giving the SUV a distinctive appearance.

Inside the cabin, MG has focused on technology and comfort. The Hector Tomahawk EV gets a large 15.6 inch touchscreen infotainment system along with an 8.8 inch digital driver display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also supported.

Other equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a 10 speaker Infinity audio system and rear window sunshades. These features place the SUV firmly in the premium family electric vehicle category.

The launch comes at a time when demand for electric passenger vehicles in India continues to grow. The segment recorded sales of 31,788 units during the previous month. Tata Motors continued to hold the top position, while MG Motor ranked third in the electric passenger vehicle market.

MG Motor reportedly sold 5,642 electric vehicles during the month, compared with around 5,900 units during the same period last year. The company currently has several electric models in India, including the Comet EV, Windsor EV and ZS EV. The Windsor EV accounts for a significant portion of MG Motor’s electric vehicle sales.

With the Hector Tomahawk EV, MG is taking a broader approach by combining a sizeable battery, long claimed range, multiple seating choices and a lower entry price through the BaaS model. The final ownership cost, however, will depend on how much the vehicle is driven and the battery rental paid over time.
