Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max Could Become the Company’s Most Expensive Smartphone Yet

Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce its next generation iPhone lineup, and early leaks suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max could arrive with a significant price increase. If the latest reports prove accurate, the flagship model may become the most expensive iPhone the company has ever released, reflecting rising production costs and major hardware upgrades.

According to information shared by tipster Smart Pikachu on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could debut in China with a starting price of CNY 11000. This would represent an increase of around CNY 1000 compared with the expected pricing of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, making it Apple’s costliest flagship to date.

Industry observers believe one of the key reasons behind the anticipated price hike is the adoption of Apple’s next generation A20 Pro processor. The chip is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2 nanometre process, a technology that promises better performance and improved power efficiency while also increasing manufacturing expenses.

Another factor contributing to the higher production cost is the growing price of memory components. Recent industry reports indicate that memory now accounts for more than 20 percent of a smartphone’s total component cost, compared with roughly 15 percent in previous years. This increase has added further pressure on the pricing of premium smartphones.

Battery upgrades are also expected to be a major highlight of the upcoming flagship. Another tipster, Duoge Internet Technology, has claimed that the eSIM only version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a 5425 mAh battery. Markets where Apple continues to offer physical SIM support may receive a slightly smaller 5235 mAh battery because of the space occupied by the SIM tray.

The removal of the physical SIM slot in selected regions is expected to free additional internal space, allowing Apple to accommodate a larger battery without increasing the phone’s size. This design approach could deliver longer battery life while maintaining the slim profile associated with the Pro Max series.

The standard iPhone 18 Pro is also expected to receive a battery upgrade. Reports suggest the physical SIM variant may include a 4056 mAh battery, while the eSIM version could feature a 4288 mAh battery. These capacities would represent a modest improvement over the batteries reportedly used in the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Alongside the iPhone 18 series, Apple is also rumored to be working on its long awaited foldable iPhone. While the company has not officially confirmed any details, industry speculation suggests that Apple is preparing major changes to its premium smartphone portfolio with a stronger focus on performance, battery life and next generation hardware.
