Malur assembly constituency: vote recount to be held in Kolar tomorrow

Kolar : The much-awaited vote recounting process for the Malur Assembly constituency will take place tomorrow at the Horticultural College in Kolar, following a Supreme Court directive.

In preparation for the recount, the district administration on Sunday transported the EVMs from the secured warehouse at the Deputy Commissioner’s office to the Horticultural College in the presence of all contesting candidates and their representatives.

Under tight security, containers carrying the EVMs were escorted by police teams led by the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police. According to officials, the recounting process will commence at 8 a.m. tomorrow and will be carried out under strict judicial supervision as per the Supreme Court’s order.

The recount stems from a petition filed by BJP’s defeated candidate K.S. Manjunath Gowda, who alleged irregularities during the previous counting process and approached the court seeking a re-verification of votes. The court subsequently directed the Kolar district administration to conduct the recount under full transparency.

This development has once again set the stage for a high-stakes face-off between Congress MLA K.Y. Nanjegowda and BJP’s Manjunath Gowda, whose electoral battle had ended in a narrow margin during the Assembly polls. Political observers note that the outcome of the recount could alter the political equations in the region.

Security has been tightened around the counting centre, and entry will be restricted only to authorised personnel and candidates’ agents. The district administration has also installed CCTV cameras to ensure transparency in the process.

The recount has drawn considerable attention across Karnataka’s political circles, with both Congress and BJP leaders closely monitoring the developments in Kolar.
