IPL 2025 restart form May 17: Bad news for RCB, MI, DC fans

IPL 2025 restart: The Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) will resume from Saturday, May 17, 2025 after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire last week and some overseas players may not be able to play the rest of the tournament due to their international commitments.

West Indies are set to tour England for a three-match ODI and T20I series from May 29, 2025, while South Africa and Australia are gearing up for the all-important World Test Championship final starting on June 11, 2025 at Lord’s in London.

Gujarat Titans (GT) topped the points table with 16 points, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with more points due to net run rate. Punjab Kings (PBKS) with 15 points and Mumbai Indians (MI) with 14 points are third and fourth respectively in the overall points table.

RCB is unsure about the availability of four players, followed by GT, who may lose the services of three foreign players for the remainder of the tournament. MI is also expected to take a significant hit in terms of available overseas resources with three players uncertain of any further participation in IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals may also find themselves in trouble as they look at the possibility of losing some key members due to the international calendar. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who still have an outside chance of qualifying for the playoffs, will face a blow with IPL 2025 being extended till June 3, 2025.

The tournament is over for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), while Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are already out of the playoff race. So, it doesn’t make much difference to them. Here is the complete list of overseas players who are likely to miss out when the IPL resumes this weekend.
