State Congress chief DK Shivakumar said that he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held a meeting with Karnataka In-charge Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala on Monday. “We will hold our final Central Election Committee meeting on March 7. I and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah are going to Delhi on March 7 where we will finalize the (first) list of candidates,” he said.
In the 2019 general elections, the BJP won 25 of the total 28 seats in the state, while its supporter Independent was also victorious. The then coalition government led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, the Congress and the JDS parties contested the elections together and won only one seat each. But the political landscape has changed significantly since then; The Congress won a landslide victory in the assembly elections held in May last year.

This is a role reversal of sorts for the JD(S), which joined the BJP-led NDA in September last year and is currently in talks with the BJP over seat sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. When asked by journalists when the first list would be released, the former CM said, “…it will be. It was soon announced…” His statement came a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming elections yesterday. It is learned that the Congress leaders have weighed and finalized the candidates.
There is only one sitting minister’s name in the top 15 list. It is KH Muniyappa from Kolar Constituency. Among the current MLAs, NA Harris from Bangalore Center. Congress close source said that Former Karnataka minister and BJP leader Jayaprakash Hegde will back to congress and contest from Udupi chikkamagaluru constituency. And Karnataka former chief minister Bangarappa daughter and Actor ShivarajKumar wife Geetha ShivarajKumar will contest from Shivamogga.
Sources said that the number of aspirants for each constituency ticket was high and it was decided to leave the final decision to the High Command. In this state, BJP and JDS alliance has come together to show the ruling Congress a taste of defeat, and with the aim of winning 28 constituencies, BJP and JDS alliance leaders are formulating a strategy.
