Woman Killed in Crocodile Attack Near Riverbank While Travelling to Wedding in Uttar Pradesh

A woman lost her life after a crocodile attacked her near a riverbank in Uttar Pradesh with authorities recovering her body as officials continue monitoring crocodile activity in the area.

A 50 year old woman was killed in a crocodile attack near a riverbank in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, leaving local residents shocked and prompting authorities to increase monitoring of the area.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening under the Sujauli police station limits. Ketaki Devi was on her way to attend a wedding when she stopped near the riverbank. According to officials, a crocodile suddenly attacked her and dragged her into the water before anyone nearby could intervene.

The attack took place along the Sarayu River canal in Bahraich district. After receiving information about the incident, police personnel, forest department officials, and local villagers launched a search operation. The woman’s body was later recovered from the water.

Authorities said crocodile movement has been reported in the area in recent days. Just two days before the fatal attack, forest officials had rescued another crocodile that had strayed from the Chaudhary Charan Singh Canal onto a nearby road. The reptile was safely captured and relocated to a suitable habitat.

Following the latest incident, forest officials have urged residents to remain cautious while visiting riverbanks and canals, particularly in areas where crocodile sightings have been reported. Authorities are continuing to monitor the region to prevent similar incidents and improve public safety.
