Nitin Nabin elected unopposed as BJP national president
New Delhi: Bihar BJP legislator Nitin Nabin has been elected unopposed as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The announcement was made on Monday by senior BJP leader and party’s national election officer K Laxman, marking a significant leadership transition in the ruling party at the Centre.
Nitin Nabin, who was recently appointed as the BJP’s national working president, filed his nomination for the top organisational post on Monday afternoon. According to K Laxman, a total of 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in support of Nabin’s candidature, all of which were found to be valid during scrutiny.
The nomination process for the BJP national president was held between 2 pm and 4 pm, followed by scrutiny from 4 pm to 5 pm. Candidates were allowed to withdraw their nominations between 5 pm and 6 pm. However, as Nitin Nabin was the sole nominee and no withdrawals were required, he was declared elected unopposed.
Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the proposers of Nitin Nabin’s candidature. The nomination also received strong backing from outgoing BJP national president J P Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several other senior leaders of the party.
The wide-ranging support underscored the leadership’s confidence in Nabin to steer the party’s organisational affairs. Announcing the decision, K Laxman said, “Overall, 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in favour of Nitin Nabin for the post of BJP national president.
Upon scrutiny, all nomination sets were found to be duly filled in the prescribed format and declared valid. After the withdrawal period concluded, only Nitin Nabin’s name remained in the fray.” Nitin Nabin’s elevation is being seen as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to promote younger leadership and strengthen organisational depth.
Party leaders have noted that his appointment aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of encouraging capable and energetic leaders to take on key organisational responsibilities, while also giving space to new faces in party structure and decision-making.
With Nabin taking charge as national president, the BJP is expected to sharpen its organisational focus ahead of upcoming state elections and future national political challenges. His tenure is likely to emphasise cadre-based mobilisation, internal discipline, and expansion of the party’s grassroots presence across states, especially in regions where the BJP is seeking to consolidate or expand its influence.
