Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across Mumbai, with another life lost after a tree collapsed during severe weather on Sunday. The incident occurred in the Kurla West area, adding to the growing toll from the ongoing monsoon conditions in Maharashtra.
According to officials, the accident took place around 1240 pm in the Naupada locality when strong winds and persistent rainfall caused a large tree to topple onto a shop. A 63 year old man identified as Yunus was trapped beneath the fallen branches and suffered critical injuries.
Rescue teams quickly removed him from the debris and rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival due to the severity of his injuries.
Family members said Yunus had recently purchased the shop and was preparing to begin business operations. He had visited the property for an inspection when the tree unexpectedly crashed onto the building, leading to the tragic accident.
A video of the incident, captured by a nearby CCTV camera, has since circulated widely on social media, highlighting the dangers posed by the continuing heavy rainfall and powerful winds.
The latest incident has taken the number of rain related deaths in Mumbai to four during the current spell of severe weather. Strong winds have also uprooted and damaged several trees across different parts of the city.
In another incident in Bandra East, a large tree fell onto parked vehicles because of heavy rain and gusty winds. While multiple vehicles were damaged, no injuries were reported. Civic officials reached the spot, cleared the fallen branches, and restored traffic movement as weather related response efforts continued across Mumbai.
