Father kills daughter to contest local elections: Shocking incident in Maharashtra
Mumbai: In a horrifying incident that has shocked Maharashtra, a man allegedly killed his own daughter after learning that having more than two children would disqualify him from contesting local body elections.
The brutal crime highlights how blind political ambition can destroy even the strongest family bonds. The incident took place in Kerur village of Nanded district. The accused, identified as Pandurang Kondamangle (28), runs a small salon in the village.
He is married and has three children – one son and two daughters. With local body elections scheduled to be held in June this year, Pandurang reportedly developed an ambition to contest for the post of sarpanch.
However, according to Maharashtra election rules, candidates with more than two children are not eligible to contest local body elections. This rule became a major hurdle for him. Desperate to fulfill his political dream, Pandurang allegedly decided to eliminate one of his children to become eligible.
Initially, he is said to have considered giving away his elder daughter for adoption. He even sought advice from the present village sarpanch regarding this issue. But later, he allegedly hatched a cruel plan to murder the child instead.
As per police reports, Pandurang took his daughter on a bike ride to Nizamabad on the pretext of an outing. On the way, he stopped near a field and pushed the innocent girl into a water canal before fleeing from the spot. The next day, villagers noticed the child’s body floating in the canal and immediately informed the police.
During the investigation, police grew suspicious of the father’s behavior and questioned him. Under interrogation, Pandurang reportedly confessed to committing the crime to remove the legal hurdle in contesting elections. He has now been arrested and booked under relevant sections of law.
The shocking murder has sparked outrage in the village, with residents condemning the inhuman act. Authorities have assured strict legal action against the accused.
