Cyclone Alert in state: Holiday for schools and colleges in this area
Cyclone Alert: It has been raining continuously in the states of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu for the past few weeks. The Indian Meteorological Department has already issued a rain alert for many states, warning that more rain will fall in the coming days.
A well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression and possibly a cyclonic storm as it moves towards the coasts of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and South Andhra Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall for several districts, including Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvallur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Ramanathapuram.
Chennai has been placed under an Orange Alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall. Schools in Chennai were closed on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, due to the heavy rain forecast, with similar holidays declared for educational institutions in several other districts like Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Ranipet.
Continuous heavy rain has caused severe waterlogging on major roads, disrupted traffic, and led to the uprooting of trees in some areas. The Deputy Commissioners of Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Mailaduthurai, Thiruvallur, Villupuram, and Kallakurichi districts of Chennai have declared a holiday for schools and colleges in these districts. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure for children, and a day off has been declared today.
Holiday in Kerala too:
A red alert has been issued for Idukki, Malappuram and Palakkad districts. In this context, a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Kerala. Also, as a precautionary measure, tourist spots have been closed and people have been advised not to go to hilly areas.
Heavy rains in Kumily, Idukki, Kerala last week caused landslides and flash floods. As a result, heavy rains are expected in the state. Heavy rains have been reported in the high altitude areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, Kozhikode and Idukki districts and are likely to continue. Therefore, tourist centers in these areas of Kerala have been closed and have been warned not to open until further orders.
