Failure to update the required documents could lead to the deactivation of your Aadhaar. This step is being taken to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the Aadhaar database.

Why Aadhaar card update is necessary:

The UIDAI requires an update to ensure that your current demographic details (name, address, etc.) and your identity are still correct. The main required action is a Document Update, where you simply submit current Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents.

How to Update Your Aadhaar Card:

You have two main ways to perform the document update:

1. Online (Recommended for convenience):

This service is free of charge for a limited time.

Visit the myAadhaar Portal: Go to the official UIDAI self-service update portal.

Log In: Use your Aadhaar number and the OTP (One-Time Password) sent to your registered mobile number.

Select “Document Update”: Follow the on-screen instructions to upload scanned copies of your Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents.

Common acceptable documents include Passport, Voter ID, PAN Card, Ration Card, Bank Passbook, or Utility Bills.

2. Offline (In-Person):

If you are unable to use the online service or need other updates (like biometrics), you can visit an Aadhaar Centre.

Locate a Center: Find your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorized Aadhaar Permanent Enrollment Center.

Submit Documents: Carry the original copies of your POI and POA documents. An operator will help you with the update process.

Note: Offline updates may involve a nominal fee.

What Happens if Your Aadhaar is Deactivated?

If your Aadhaar is deactivated, it will no longer be valid for authentication. This can affect your ability to:

Access government subsidies and welfare schemes (DBT).

Perform banking and financial transactions (KYC).

Obtain a new mobile connection.

Avail of any service that requires Aadhaar verification.

It is highly advisable to complete the Document Update as soon as possible if your Aadhaar is 10 years old and has not been updated.
