14 Rescued After Rain-Triggered Building Collapse in Pune

A three-storey building collapsed in Pune's Moshi area following heavy rainfall. Rescue teams safely evacuated 14 trapped workers, while authorities continue assessing damage and monitoring weather conditions.

Heavy rainfall continues to affect several regions of Maharashtra, with a building collapse in Pune adding to the challenges faced by emergency authorities. The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Moshi area under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits.

According to preliminary information, the three-storey structure, located inside a waste recycling facility, gave way after continuous rainfall weakened the building. At the time of the collapse, 16 workers were reportedly inside the premises.

Police, Fire and Emergency Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, and local civic officials rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident. Rescue teams launched an intensive operation to remove debris and search for those trapped.

Officials said two workers managed to escape on their own moments after the collapse, while the remaining 14 were pulled out safely during the rescue operation. No fatalities have been reported in the incident so far, although authorities are continuing to assess the condition of those who sustained injuries.

The building collapse comes as Maharashtra faces widespread rainfall, leading to waterlogging and flood-like conditions in several districts. Civic authorities have shifted thousands of residents from vulnerable locations to safer areas as a precaution.

Meanwhile, Mumbai has also witnessed rain-related incidents. In a separate building collapse reported from the Mankhurd area, six people, including five children, lost their lives, highlighting the impact of the ongoing monsoon across the state.
