Wedding Dream Shattered: Youth Injured in Car Mishap While Eloping, Girl Flees Scene

Haveri,  : A young man’s plan to marry the woman he loved ended in tragedy after a car carrying the couple overturned near Channalli Tanda in Hirekerur taluk, leaving three persons injured and the bride-to-be fleeing the scene in panic.

Irfan, a Bengaluru-based employee of a private firm, had reportedly fallen in love with a colleague from Hirekerur. The two had decided to get married despite resistance from the woman’s family. According to sources, the young woman had recently travelled to her native village to attend a local fair. Seeing this as an opportunity, Irfan hired a car and, along with his friends Chandru and Gururaj, drove from Bengaluru to bring her back.

After picking her up from her village, the group began their journey towards Bengaluru, allegedly planning to solemnise the marriage soon after reaching the city. However, fearing that the woman’s parents or relatives might chase them, the car was reportedly driven at a high speed.

Near Channalli Tanda, the driver is said to have lost control of the vehicle. The car rammed into a roadside tree and overturned multiple times before coming to a halt. The impact left the vehicle severely damaged, with its front portion crushed.

Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing the crash and helped pull the injured occupants out of the mangled vehicle. Irfan and his two friends sustained serious injuries and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Doctors described their condition as stable but requiring close medical supervision.

The young woman, who was seated in the rear seat, escaped with minor injuries. However, eyewitnesses claimed that when a crowd began gathering, she appeared distressed and left the spot. Instead of accompanying Irfan to the hospital, she allegedly sought a lift from passing vehicles, reached the nearest bus stand, and boarded a bus back to Bengaluru.

Police have registered a case at the Hirekerur Police Station and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, including whether over-speeding was the primary cause. Officials are also verifying statements from witnesses and those involved.

The incident has left the local community shocked. What was intended to be a journey towards a new life together has instead turned into a painful episode of shattered hopes, serious injuries, and unanswered questions about trust and responsibility in moments of crisis.
