Red Alert Issued as Heavy Rain Set to Lash Coastal and Malnad Karnataka

The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert for several coastal and Malnad districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall during the next twenty four hours across Karnataka.

Bengaluru: The southwest monsoon has intensified across Karnataka, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a Red Alert for several coastal and Malnad districts. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours, and authorities have advised people to remain cautious.

The districts placed under the Red Alert include Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu. Officials have warned that continuous rainfall could trigger landslides in ghat regions, while rough sea conditions are expected along the coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until weather conditions improve.

In Bengaluru, cloudy skies are expected to persist throughout the day, bringing cooler weather across the city. Light to moderate rain is likely during the evening or night in several areas. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 27 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may stay close to 20 degrees Celsius.

The weather department has also forecast moderate rainfall in parts of northern Karnataka, including Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, and Bidar. In southern interior districts such as Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, and Tumakuru, isolated places may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

Despite the heavy rain forecast, no district has announced a holiday for schools so far. Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary decisions based on changing weather conditions.
